"Fire is quenched by pouring on water or by withdrawing fuel; so the Spirit is quenched by living in sin, which is like pouring water on a fire; or by not improving our gifts and graces, which is like with drawing fuel from the hearth."

Suppose a master gardener should give you a beautiful garden and say, “I will provide the seed, the soil, the sunlight, the air, and all the other things necessary to make it beautiful. All I ask in return is one blossom of each ten, that they may be mine, and that with them I may cheer others who have not. The other nine you may do with as you will.” Then suppose when the garden grew and became beautiful, you selfishly kept all the blossoms for yourself and those whom you loved, giving only a leaf or a bud to the master whenever it happened to please you to do so. What would the master of the garden think of you? Yet God is the Master Gardener!
